Dr. Jayelle Haavaldsen
A little about Dr. Jayelle...
My name is Jayelle Haavaldsen and I am a naturopathic doctor serving the Edmonton area. I grew up in St. Albert but spent a decade pursuing post-secondary studies in beautiful British Columbia. I hold a Bachelor of Science with a major in medical biochemistry from UBC’s Okanagan campus in Kelowna. Following that, I spent four years at Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine (BINM) in Vancouver studying naturopathic medicine. In addition to my clinical hours earned at the BINM clinic, I also got the opportunity to spend a formative six months providing naturopathic care at the Katzie First Nation Health Centre, as well as three months at Positive Living BC, a support facility for HIV-positive individuals living in Vancouver. My undergraduate studies in biochemistry fostered in me a deep sense of curiosity - I always want to look deep and understand how and why things work. However, even after years of studying biochemistry, anatomy, and physiology, I never cease to be amazed by the resilience of the human body and its capacity to heal. My goal is to help you realize what your body is capable of when given the right tools and environment. After a decade away, I look forward to reconnecting with the city and the people of Edmonton.
As a naturopathic doctor, I work with you to get to the bottom of your health concerns and get you feeling your best. Together, we’ll take a detailed look at your medical history and then put together a comprehensive, holistic, treatment plan specific to your concerns. Our treatment plan could include dietary/lifestyle modifications, professional-grade nutritional supplements, botanical medicine, acupuncture, injection therapy, or even a referral to another health professional when necessary. Treatments are individualized to meet your specific health goals, and will always take into consideration current scientific evidence and any concurrent medications, treatments, or concerns you may have.
While I enjoy a general practice, I have a special interest in mental health - this means working with individuals who have diagnosed conditions such as depression or anxiety, but also addressing the psychological well being of all individuals with any health condition. In addition to mental health, I see and treat a variety of conditions, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, women’s health issues, digestive issues, and many more. I have received additional training in providing trauma-informed care and participated in "conscious-clinician" workshops to ensure I am able to bring my best self to the table when listening to you. Whatever your concern is, I am happy to sit down with you.
I feel deep gratitude to have found a career that I am so passionate about. I spent my teens working at a physiotherapy clinic, observing from a young age that many people were desperate to find a healthcare practitioner who would listen to their story. I knew I wanted to offer that to people, as well as educating people around the role that diet, nutrition, and alternative treatments such as acupuncture could play in their health care. As soon as I learned what a naturopathic doctor was, I instantly knew it was what I was looking for.
Outside of the clinic, I like to spend time outdoors walking, hiking, biking with my bike-fanatic husband, playing soccer, camping, and snowboarding. In the last few years, I’ve taken to gardening, which I’ve fallen completely in love with. I also have a regular yoga practice, which has been one of the greatest gifts in my life. While inside, I am usually in the kitchen as cooking and baking are huge passions of mine (especially when it includes my garden yields).
