A little about Mandy Megan...
Mandy Megan is a highly experienced registered dietitian with a wealth of knowledge and practical skills honed throughout an impressive 10+ year career. With a Bachelor of Science in Applied Human Nutrition and a Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition, Mandy Megan also holds a Registered
Dietitian Practice Permit with the College of Dietitians of Alberta, is a professional member of Dietitians of Canada, and has trained under two general surgeons to receive a Restrictive Practice Permit with her licensing body to prescribe parenteral nutrition for the purpose of nutrition support.
Mandy Megan's career to date has offered her many learning opportunities that she eagerly accepted and now puts into practice today. 2010 saw her begin her journey as Diabetes Management Program Coordinator for the Health Association of African Canadians. Within the same year, she moved into a more senior project role as Diabetes Screening, Detection and Self-Management Program Coordinator for the North End Community Health Centre. She then completed 7 years as a Clinical Dietitian at Covenant Health, before taking on simultaneous new roles as a part-time Primary Care Dietitian for the Camrose Primary Care Network and a Private Practice Dietitian in her very own business and contracted clinics and organizations.
Mandy Megan's technical knowledge and skillset cover an incredible spectrum, including nutrition counselling and education, medical nutrition therapy (nutrition assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation) for acute and chronic disease management, meal planning, program development, inpatient acute care (including surgical, ICU and special care units), outpatient heart and stroke clinic care, dysphagia and videofluoroscopy experience, chronic disease management, weight management, bowel health, prenatal care, woman's health and geriatric care. Through personal experience, she sees strong value in the importance of functional medicine, holistic care, and collaborative healthcare practices.
Helping her patients and clients utilize nutrition and lifestyle strategies to improve their health through tailored medical nutrition therapy has been a special interest of Mandy Megan's, though her passion extends on a broader level to empowering people to make long-term lifestyle changes.
Mandy Megan has spent many years developing professional competencies in motivational interviewing and nutrition-related behaviour change strategies and finds these skills to be a key factor in driving positive long-term health outcomes.
Alongside her professional career, Mandy Megan has displayed her talents as a public speaker and health expert for various causes, including guest lecturing at Mount Saint Vincent University, Nova Scotia Community College and the University of Alberta. Mandy Megan has also participated as a
Media Spokesperson for Dietitians of Canada Nutrition Month campaigns for over 10 years, is a Nutrition Tour Leader for Save-On-Foods grocery store and is the author of her very own book, "Eating Healthy For Your Heart".
