The holiday season is officially here! We think of it as a time of peace, excitement, family gatherings, exchanging gifts, and good food. Festive, yes, but for many, this is not always the case. As we are all aware, holidays aren't only about these things; for others, they're about finding peace and pleasure in the midst of all the chaos.
Here are a few tips for you to find inner peace amid all the craziness during this season.
Classic, right?
In what way would you prefer to celebrate the holidays this year? What's on the menu? How about your budget? Make a list so you won't have to go out and buy things at the last minute. (And don't forget to stick to your budget!)
These things, when planned, significantly help you avoid unnecessary stress.
You don't have to be available to everyone or all the time! Overcommitment often leads to stress and exhaustion. Know your priorities. Be realistic about your capabilities and limitations. Having a clear idea of what's most important to you makes it easier to say no to things that aren't.
You've probably heard this many times, but I'm going to repeat it.
There is no such thing as perfect!
Instead, focus on being grateful for all you have, spending time with loved ones, and not stressing over what didn't get done (I promise you, they won't notice).
Everything from planning, to Christmas decorations, to preparing meals, and then cleaning up... the list could go on and on.
You are human.
Asking for help at some point is a strength. It is vital to maintaining your emotional well-being and is not something that you should be ashamed of.
Your emotions are valid. The ability to remain in the present moment while identifying and accepting your emotions is essential for practicing mindfulness. It may be helpful to engage in self-reflecting methods such as meditation, writing, yoga, or just taking some time out of your busy schedule.
